LETS network has its roots in childcare networks and Credit Unions in the UK, alternative currency systems developed in Canada in the 1970's and Social welfare schemes in Australia where it has been particularly successful.
They have spread to many countries in the developed world where they have helped to retain a sense of community in areas where the pressures of modern living have tended to weaken the social fabric.
Kendal LETS in one of about 400 Groups nationwide. There are also schemes running in Lancaster, Sedbergh, Ulverston, and Ambleside!
